History

David Simmons was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota as the illegitimate son to Jane Wood, a prostitute who was a drug addict and runaway from Alabama. The father of David has never been identified. At age two, his mother placed him in a foster home, where he spent most of his early years in a Roman Catholic orphanage run by nuns, never to see his birth parents again. He was shuttled around various homes and orphanages, where he suffered physical abuse and sexual abuse at the hands of various foster mothers and fathers. When he was 13 years old, Simmons's foster father died in a car crash he lost control of the car when he turned around to hit Simmons, who was riding in the back seat. The deceased man's widow, who was in the car as well but survived, blamed David for the accident and gave him regular beatings until he was taken back into care. The “Simmons” family finally adopted him and he took the family name of Simmons during this time. David lived with them in a large, distinctive house in Summit Avenue.

His time spent there during the beginning of his adolescence was a time of peace and calm. He remains close to the Simmons family visiting his adoptive mother and father each Mother's Day, Christmas and on his adoptive parent's birthdays. As he approached his teens, David began to get in trouble with the law his adopted father became worried about his son’s bad behavior and introduce him to sports like boxing and football. David began boxing around the age of eleven. At fourteen, a neighbor opened a boxing gym for local kids. He competed in the Junior Olympics as an amateur boxer. As much as he loved the sports of boxing, he was also emerging as a football standout for his middle school. During high school, David developed into an attractive talented student athlete. Because of his early life in foster homes and facing abuse, he had a problem with low self-esteem but used his success in sports and sexual conquests with different girls to boost his wounded ego.

As a starter during his Junior and Senior years, David led his team to a record of 25-1, including two Saint Paul CIF section championships. He was named to the first-team all-conference and all-county squads in the Saint Paul CIF system. David was president of his senior class in high school, and was an excellent student who graduated with a 4.4 GPA one semester early by earning college credits through a program with University of Minnesota. With schools from all over, the nation making him offers David had a bright future a head of him. David always wanted to visit Los Angles in his mind it was the land of beach blonde bikini clad starlets. David was a three-year starter at ULCA and the NFL scouts was drooling. Instead of going pro like his family and friends told, he to he wanted to play one more year in college and finish his degree in criminal justice it was a bittersweet choice.

Before the start of his senior season, David was arrested for allegedly operating a boat while intoxicated and resisting arrest. He was suspended his senior season even thought the charges was dropped. and while not playing his draft stock dropped a lot and he found his NFL career dreams slowly fading. After college, he took his degree in criminal justice and joined the LAPD. After the police adamancy David became a patrolmen and quickly worked his way up the ranks to finally a detective and leader of the Strike Team, a four-man anti-gang unit

Personality

David Simmons is a known workaholic. One doesn't become a success without this tendency, however, he does tend to take in, at times, moderation. As a police offer , he has tendency to also have a god-complex, but again, such a trait is common with the profession. To the community , he shows excellent manners, but to his colleagues, much to their chagrin, he shows a slight contempt and shows his arrogance by being an ass more often than not. As a result of being the only male in his sibling-dynamic, David is prone to bouts of machismo; however, this is not in excess. His caustic and sarcastic dry-wit humor is charming in its own way. When not in the OR, David is personable and approachable. He even possesses an acceptable level of self-humor.

Additionally, David is an avid sportsmen and can be found regularly in a gym. He maintains a strict workout schedule to allow him to perform his duties when they often get physical ; of course the benefit of such workouts results in an extremely fit and cut body. Though his primary goal is to be in peak physical health, he does enjoy the benefit of such mentalities, perhaps even in the bedroom, where he can show that his skills well extend beyond surgery. Though it doesn't remain certain which race David prefers, one thing is absolutely clear: his work is his top-priority. Relationships, especially those outside the police -field, tend to dissipate due to a lack of understanding of his priorities.

David is a corrupt yet effective police officer; he steals from drug dealers, routinely beat suspects and committed murder on at least three occasions. While two of the victims were violent gangsters, one was a child rapist. Despite his misdeeds, he is a devoted brother and a loyal partner to his teammates and will readily protect those he sees as innocent victims .David’s morality is a classic example of selfish consequentialism. David feels that his actions are justified if they produce the best consequences only for himself and those close to him. He once raised his hand and swore to uphold the law, yet regularly committed serious crimes for professional and personal gain. Simmons's personality is often viewed as amoral or machiavellian, believing that "the ends justify the means. David’s brutality is usually directed towards dangerous criminals whom he considers deserving of their harsh treatment at his hands-i.e. rapists, child molesters and mass murderers. Even when he has broken the law himself, he has often justified it to himself by doing so in order to solve what he regards as more serious crimes. For example

David cornered a teenaged murder witness and threatened to plant crack cocaine on him unless he violated the neighborhood code of silence and revealed who murdered two police officers.
